Speaking up can help protect employee rights

If you go through the various pages on our law firm’s site, you will see that there are numerous types of employment law concerns that may come up. Some employees end up having to deal with harassment, while others are hit with wage and overtime pay issues. Other individuals may be wrongfully terminated or have issues related to their employment agreements.

Because having a job and keeping a job is very important to many individuals in New York, we can definitely understand why some individuals may decide not to speak up when they are dealing with one of these issues. Sometimes an employee may feel it is too risky to bring up a concern because they fear losing their job or being passed up for a promotion.

Unfortunately, the issue may continue or may even get worse if nothing is brought up to management. The hope most of us hold is that telling a manager about an employment problem will prompt him or her to look into the issue and address it when necessary. Sadly, that does not always happen. Sometimes an employee is courageous enough to voice his or her concern only to be dismissed by management.

In these cases, the employee may decide to just put up with the matter. While this is understandable, if laws are being broken, the issue may be affecting more than one employee. This issue may be widespread with no one taking action against it. If you feel your rights as an employee are being pushed aside, it might be helpful to discuss your case with an attorney. An attorney can help you understand the difference between an unpleasant experience at work and an experience that is considered illegal.
